Background

Lamar Legend is a native New Yorker and began his theatrical training at The High School for the Performing Arts (The "Fame" School/LAG Arts) as an actor. He honed his dancing technique at The Alvin Ailey Dance School. But it wasn't until he moved to Chicago where he attended the conservatory at DePaul University (formerly The Goodman School of Acting) that he married his love of Shakespeare and physical theatre under the title of Director.

Experience

Lamar has starred in over fifty theatrical works in four US cities, as well as abroad in Tuscany, Rome, Milan, Prague, and Mexico. He's performed at Lincoln Center, Teatro Patologico and Teatro Franco Parenti in Milan, and has been honored with The Rising Star Award by The Broadway League and The Gregory Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Musical.

He served on the Board of Directors for Intiman Theatre, spearheading their EDI Committee, has been a Teaching Artist for companies such as ENACT (NY) and A Crew of Patches Theatre (Chicago), touring to nearly five hundred citywide public schools.

Currently, he is the Diversity Programming Coordinator at Seattle Shakespeare Company and has co-launched their Shakespeare Equity Engagement (SEE) program which fosters healthy relationships with underserved populations within the local Seattle artistic community. It seeks to heal and undo systemic trauma through artistic skill building, discussion groups, forums, and mentorship while connecting historically neglected groups to professional career opportunities.
